You need courage met with compassion– dare to be vulnerable in the face of your own fear in order to develop new tools for transformation.

Venus Trine Chiron

How do you define yourself and your boundaries without the need to judge and define others?

For as long as humans have been self conscious beings capable of creating borders, we have been defending them. In classical times, this meant defining anyone outside the wall of your city state as a danger to your well-being. The origin of the other as dangerous comes from this basic drive for self-protection.

But the need to define every person outside of your boundaries as dangerous is no longer a necessity in the modern age. We have inoculation technology, we have a global culture, and we have societies moving towards inclusivity of the diversity of human experience.

There are places, however, where fear still creeps in. Among those of us who feel their own privilege and position of power declining as we move to equal the playing field. Among those of us working towards self-healing who feel that dealing with those who are not is a waste of their time. And among those of us who feel overwhelmed by the cultural and systemic changes sweeping our current reality, and wish for it to return to an easier past.

But actions and judgments made from a place of fear will never resolve the issues you face today. Creating borders, calling out judgments, and refusing to acknowledge the humanity in even those who would oppose you will keep you from finding the stability that you seek.

What is needed is courage met with compassion. Dare to be vulnerable in the face of your own fear in order to develop new tools for transformation.

Dare to add to the collective dream of a world where we do not need borders, do not pronounce judgments, and do no dehumanize each other out of fear. Develop the compassion necessary for that kind of world in you, in this moment. There is no need to wait for a future to manifest; you are the agent of change in this moment. The ability to bring that future into fruition lies within you in this moment.

Social hierarchy depends on ritual display of power, prestige, and wealth over others. In the embassy hall, only those with direct power over cultural consciousness, as well as those connected to them, are invited to participate. The rest of humanity, on lower levels of the social hierarchy, does not patriciate in state sanctioned farce.

This ritual display is predicated on the ritualization of social behavior in order to enforce certain social norms– artifice. In order to break through such ritual and conceive of a non-hierarchical society, vulnerability and truth is needed. Dare to be vulnerable in the face of ritualized social interaction intended for the purpose of re-creating systems of power at the cultural level. Only through bearing your truth in the face of power can systems be restructured around true human values. The truth within you is human– the ritual around you is not.
